Jae’vion Smith (17, Joliet) has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder following a bill of indictment by a Will County Grand Jury for the stabbing death of a 17-year-old male on May 3, 2026, at 366 North Broadway Street.

Smith was originally held at the River Valley Justice Center on previous charges of Aggravated Battery.

Due to the level of criminal offense, Smith will be charged as an adult.

The detained 17-year-old male accused of stabbing another 17-year-old male at 366 N. Broadway St. on May 3, 2026, has been charged with Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm following a review of the case conducted by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The 17-year-old arrestee was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transferred to the River Valley Justice Center.
The Joliet Police Department has received notification from the Will County Coroner’s Office that the 17-year-old stabbing victim was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Medical Center on May 4, 2026.
Detectives continue to actively investigate this incident, and the manner of death will be
determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office. Further details will be provided should they
become available.

On May 3, 2026, at 12:55 p.m., officers responded to the Riverwalk Homes Apartments for a reported stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male on the fifth floor of 366 N. Broadway who had sustained a serious stab wound. The victim was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to St. Joseph Medical Center.

Officers secured the scene and conducted a canvass of the area. A male juvenile has been detained as a person of interest and transported to the Joliet Police Department for questioning.

A knife has been recovered at the scene.

At the time of this release, the victim remains in critical condition at St. Joseph Medical Center.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Information is preliminary and may change as

the investigation continues. Officers and detectives remain on scene, and additional details will be released as they become available.
