Suspect Arrested in July 5 Hickory Street Shooting

On June 5, 2026, at 11:34 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of North Hickory Street following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers determined that an occupied residence in the area had been struck by gunfire.
The preliminary investigation indicated that residents in the area had overheard a disturbance involving several unidentified individuals in the street shortly before the shots were fired. No injuries were reported.
Officers canvassed the area and recovered multiple spent shell casings.
During the investigation, detectives identified Malachi Sullivan (19, Joliet) as a suspect who had discharged a firearm during this incident. On June 15, 2026, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Sullivan with two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
On July 8, 2026, Sullivan was taken into custody in the 1300 block of Demmond Street by members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
