Under bill, state highway cameras could be used to investigate human trafficking

On July 11, 2026, at 6:46 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Benton Street and Polson Place following a report of a man who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived.

The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital with life-threatening injuries before later being transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

The shooting scene was secured, and officers, detectives, and crime scene investigators conducted an extensive canvass of the area, during which spent shell casings were located.

At this time, no suspect information is available, and the events leading up to the shooting remain under active investigation.
