Suspect Arrested in July 11 Joliet Street Shooting

During an investigation of the shooting that injured an 18-year-old man on July 11, 2026, Joliet Police detectives identified Jaime Torres-Reyes (22, Joliet) as a suspect in this shooting.
On July 17, 2026, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Torres-Reyes with Aggravated Battery (Class X Felony), Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony).
Later that day, at 4:04 p.m., members of the Joliet Police Tactical Unit took Torres-Reyes into custody during a traffic stop near South Joliet Street and Munroe Street. He was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing before being transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
This shooting remains under active investigation by detectives. On July 11, 2026, at 6:46 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Benton Street and Polson Place following a report of a man who had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and left arm. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived.
The victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital with life-threatening injuries before later being transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.
The shooting scene was secured, and officers, detectives, and crime scene investigators conducted an extensive canvass of the area during which spent shell casings were located.
At this time, no suspect information is available, and the events leading up to the shooting remain under active investigation.
