Man Seriously Injured in Crash at Black and Larkin

Hundreds of police departments use camera company accused of breaking state law

On June 28, 2026, at 1:59 a.m., an officer observed a Cadillac CTS traveling southbound on Raynor Avenue without its headlights or taillights illuminated.

The Cadillac turned westbound onto Black Road, and the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver of the Cadillac refused to stop and immediately accelerated away from the officer at a high rate of speed and began to drive in a reckless manner, continuing westbound on Black Road.

The officer discontinued the attempted traffic stop and deactivated emergency lights out of a concern for safety prior to reaching Black Road and Midland Avenue.

As the Cadillac continued westbound at a high rate of speed, the officer and witnesses observed the vehicle disregard a red traffic signal at the intersection of Black Road and Larkin Avenue. As the Cadillac entered the intersection, it collided with a Chevrolet Cruze driven by a male (23, Chicago) who was traveling northbound on Larkin Avenue at Black Road on a green light.

The collision caused the Cadillac to leave the roadway, strike a utility pole, and overturn in a nearby grassy area.

The driver of the Cadillac was identified as a male (21, Joliet) and it was determined that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was extricated from the vehicle by the Joliet Fire Department and transported to Saint Joseph Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

He was later flown to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

The driver and two adult male passengers of the Chevrolet sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also transported to Saint Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. The roadway remained closed for several hours while traffic investigators reconstructed the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at 815-724-3010.
