On June 22, 2026, at 8:38 p.m., officers responded to West Jefferson Street and North Hickory Street for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 17-year-old male was operating a Honda dirt bike eastbound on West Jefferson Street approaching North Hickory Street alongside two other dirt bikes.

According to witnesses, the 17-year-old disregarded a red traffic signal and entered the intersection, where he was struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Maxie Robinson (38, Joliet).

Robinson was traveling northbound on North Hickory Street and it is believed he had a green traffic signal at the time of the crash.

As a result of the collision, the 17-year-old was ejected from the dirt bike. Following the initial impact, the Chevrolet Impala also struck an unoccupied vehicle that was legally parked on North Hickory Street.

The 17-year-old sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office. It was determined that the two other dirt bike operators stopped at the intersection prior to the crash.

During the investigation, officers learned that after the crash Robinson exited his vehicle and allegedly battered one of the other dirt bike operators, causing injury.

Officers observed signs of possible alcohol impairment while speaking with Robinson. Robinson admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the crash and agreed to participate in field sobriety testing. Following the tests, Robinson was taken into custody without incident. Officers also located open alcohol inside Robinson’s vehicle.

Robinson was charged with Aggravated DUI, two counts of DUI, DUI – BAC 0.08 or More, and two counts of Aggravated Battery. He was also cited for Transportation of Open Alcohol by Driver and Failure to Carry a Driver’s License while Operating a Motor Vehicle.

Robinson was processed at the Joliet Police Department and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

The two additional male adult dirt bike operators were each cited at the scene for Operating a Non-Highway Vehicle on a Roadway, and both dirt bikes were towed from the scene.

The roadway remained closed for several hours while members of the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit reconstructed the crash scene. The manner and cause of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
