UPDATE TO PLAINFIELD SCHOOL THREAT INCIDENT**

A male juvenile remains in police custody at Saint Joseph Medical center after police learned he was plotting a school shooting.

On 05/22/2026, at 12:50 p.m., Will County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2400 block of Helmar Lane in Plainfield Township for a male suicidal subject.

Initial responding deputies found a male juvenile and a relative at that location. Further investigation shows the relative had discovered the juvenile was armed with a firearm and the relative dialed 911 while pinning the juvenile down.

Preliminary investigation shows the juvenile was on his way to conduct a school shooting at nearby Grand Prairie Elementary School, when the relative intervened.

Deputies detained the juvenile and recovered a Glock handgun, a backpack which contained multiple loaded magazines, knives, an accelerant, gloves, and other items.

Officials with the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield School District 202 were contacted regarding this incident. For the remainder of the day, which was the last day of school, appropriate measures were taken at all school facilities, including an increased police presence for the remainder of the day.

The male juvenile is at the hospital being evaluated by medical professionals, after making suicidal and homicidal statements to EMS on scene. There is no threat to the community, this is an ongoing investigation and no charges have yet been filed.
