UPDATE: Teen Critical after Market Street Shooting, Suspect Arrested
On May 18, 2026, a 13-year-old male juvenile from Joliet was arrested, booked, and transported to the Will County River Valley Justice Center (RVJC) on a charge of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
Detectives continued their investigation into the shooting and were able to gather additional information regarding the incident. K9 officers assisted in locating the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting. The firearm was recovered near the scene and placed into evidence.
Detectives were also able to identify the male juvenile who possessed the firearm when it was discharged. Further investigation is being conducted into the history of the firearm and its owner(s).
With the assistance of the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division, detectives charged one of the male juveniles who was present inside the residence with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
The juvenile victim remains in stable but critical condition following surgery.

On May 18, 2026, at 4:53 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Market Street for a report of a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers located a 13-year-old male in the home with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Officers rendered medical aid until Joliet Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene.
The victim was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to Saint Joseph Medical Center in critical condition before later being airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.
Officers and detectives conducted a canvass of the area. Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred inside the residence. Detectives are actively working to determine the events leading up to the incident.
No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
