Hundreds of police departments use camera company accused of breaking state law

At approximately 6:55 a.m. on January 25, 2026, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Dillman Avenue.

Callers also reported seeing a shirtless male discard a firearm running near nearby train tracks.

Officers arrived at 718 Garnsey Avenue, where they located a 29-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his ankle. This injury is believed to be self-inflicted.

Officers also discovered a 36-year-old female and a 4-year-old male unresponsive outside in the backyard of the residence with apparent gunshot wounds.

During a search of the residence, officers located a 8-year-old male with special needs unharmed in a bedroom. This child was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department as a precaution. It is believed that the female victim was the mother to both of the children.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. Spent shell casings recovered appear to match this same firearm.

The Will County Coroner’s Office responded, and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victims and manner of death will be determined by the Will Coroner’s Office.

The male was transported to Silver Cross Hospital by the Joliet Fire Department and then was transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood under police guard. His injury is considered to be non-life threatening.

The motive for this shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or information related to this shooting is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Investigation Division at 815-724-3020.

They can also contact Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734 or online at https://crimestoppersofwillcounty.org/ if they wish to remain anonymous.
