Federal Duck Stamp Art Exhibit opens at Plum Creek Nature Center
The Federal Duck Stamp Art Exhibit is now open at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township.
The free, all-ages exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays and it runs through Sunday, Feb. 22.
The traveling exhibit features the top 12 adult entries from the annual Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest, along with 55 pieces created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Best of Show winners from each state are included, showcasing a wide range of artistic styles and waterfowl species.
Each year, artists from across the country submit original paintings and drawings of ducks to the Federal Duck Stamp Art Program. Select entries become collectible stamps, with proceeds supporting federal wetland conservation efforts. Over the program’s 90-year history, more than $1 billion has been raised to help protect more than 6 million acres of wildlife habitat.
“Birders, artists, and nature enthusiasts alike will appreciate the skill and creativity displayed through the artwork,” said Heather Van Zyl, facility supervisor at Plum Creek Nature Center. “You just might learn something new, too, as we’ve added a few educational pieces as well.”
Van Zyl encourages visitors to pair a visit to the exhibit — made possible through support from The Nature Foundation of Will County — with a walk to nearby wetlands, including Snapper Pond, for winter waterfowl viewing.
“Come be inspired by these pieces and consider creating your own submission,” she said. “How exciting would it be to have one of our talented local artists featured in next year’s traveling exhibit, or on the next stamp!”
Submissions for the 2026 contest will be accepted from June 1 through Aug. 15.
Several complementary programs will be offered in conjunction with the exhibit. Program details are available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.
