Stress-free Hike for Women: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 29, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Take a brisk, women-only hike after the holiday season. Let the cool air and mindful walking calm your mind while you enjoy the scenic Des Plaines River. Sip hot beverages after the hike and enjoy the views. Women ages 16 or older; free. Register by Nov. 28.
Joliet Iron Works Tour: 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, Joliet Iron Works Historic Site, Joliet. Discover the stories of the “City of Stone and Steel.” Explore the stone foundations and hear about the men and machines that powered Joliet’s industrial past. Ages 16 or older; free. Register by Nov. 25.
Sounds of December: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays, Dec. 3-31, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Bolingbrook. Explore the nature center’s interactive scavenger hunt to match winter sounds with their natural origins. Listen carefully and win a prize for your efforts. All ages; free.
Armchair Historians: The Conservation Movement: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville. Take a journey through time to explore how human activity and preservation shaped the natural world. Enjoy light refreshments while learning from the comfort of your chair. Ages 16 or older; free. BYOB Ugly Sweater Bingo Brunch: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 6, Hickory Creek Preserve – LaPorte Road Access, Mokena. Deck Your Halls with Milkweed Pods: 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, Isle a la Cache Museum. Learn about milkweed’s importance to monarchs, then turn pods into creative holiday ornaments. Materials provided. All ages; free. Register by Dec. 4.
