Hibernate, Migrate, Acclimate: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township. This ongoing program runs through Sunday, Dec. 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays. As temperatures drop and days get shorter, discover how animals survive the chill. Drop in anytime during open hours to explore the nature center and surrounding grounds, learning which animals hibernate, migrate or acclimate to endure winter. Complete the challenge to earn a prize. All ages; free.
Meet a Beekeeper: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 1, Plum Creek Nature Center. Chat with local beekeeper Dade Bradley to learn about the art and science of beekeeping. Ask questions, get tips and explore the fascinating world of bees. All ages; free.
Whoooo’s Out There? Scavenger Hunt: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Bolingbrook. This ongoing program runs through Sunday, Nov. 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays to Sundays. Owls large and small have taken up residence at Hidden Oaks for November. Pick up your scavenger hunt checklist inside the nature center, then explore the play area to spot all the species roosting in the trees. Bring your completed list back for a prize and even color your own owl to hide for others to find. All ages; free.
Morning Fresh Air Hike: 8:30-9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Take in crisp autumn air and the beauty of the season on this naturalist-led hike through forest, prairie and river landscapes. Up to 2 miles on paved and natural surfaces. Ages 8 or older; free. Register by Saturday, Nov. 1.
