One Fatality in Wilmington-Peotone Road Crash

Massey’s death underscores state delay in launching mental health response program

The Will County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit has now reopened Wilmington-Peotone Road as of 3 p.m. as the scene of this morning’s accident is now clear.

Sadly, the Sheriff’s Office is advising that the female driver of a Dodge Grand Caravan lost her life in the crash, while the female driver of a Chevrolet Spark was transported in critical condition.

Shortly before 11 a.m. today, deputies responded to a two-car, head on collision on Wilmington-Peotone Road, between S. Center Road and 104th Street in Peotone.

Manhattan Fire Emergency personnel extricated both drivers from their respective vehicles. No passengers were in the vehicles.

The driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan was being transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee when she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Spark was transported to Riverside Hospital in Kankakee and was airlifted to a Chicago Hospital.

Initial reports indicate that the Caravan was traveling westbound when it crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic, striking the Elite that was traveling eastbound. The investigation remains open and may take some time before it is completed.
