Sheriff Warns of Bail Bond Scam
The Will County Sheriff’s, Adult Detention Facility, is advising families with current inmates in the detention facility that we have received seven calls from inmate family members, within the last two days, who have informed us that they received a call from a man identifying himself as Lt. Tillman or Lt. Harris, from the Sheriff’s Office.
The man is offering to accept a bond amount for the release of their loved one (inmate) who is in custody. The man then instructs the family member to transfer a bond amount via Cash App, Venmo, or Zelle.
In a few instances, the phone number, caller ID, is 815-714-9325.
Be advised: This is a scam! No one from the Will County Adult Detention Facility, nor the Will County Sheriff’s Office, will ever call an inmate’s family or friend to extend an offer of payment of a bail bond for the release of anyone in our custody.
If this has happened to you, or if it happens in the future, hang up the phone and call the Sheriff’s Office to make a police report at: 815-727-8575.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Information Technology (IT) Unit has not found any type of security breach to our computer systems or networks that these scammers may be able to locate information regarding inmate family names, phone numbers, or any other secure private information.
