Additional Arrest Made in Joliet Food Mart Homicide
A 15-year-old male was arrested, processed, and transported to the River Valley Justice Center for Two Counts of Attempted Murder, Two Counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
As Joliet Police Detectives continued their investigation into this shooting following the arrest of Marcus Gilbert on September 10, 2024, a 15-year-old juvenile was identified as an additional suspect. The juvenile was questioned by Detectives at the Joliet Police Department on September 17, 2024. Upon a review of the facts and evidence from this case, the Will County State’s Attorney Office approved the charges of two counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Detectives placed the juvenile into custody at the Joliet Police Department and he was transferred to the River Valley Justice Center.
Marcus Gilbert (19, Crest Hill) was arrested, processed, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Two Counts of Attempt First Degree Murder (Class X), Two Counts of Aggravated Battery (Class X), and Two Counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1).
During the investigation of a shooting that occurred outside of the Western Food Mart (308 Western Avenue) on August 28, 2024, at 9:11 p.m., Joliet Police Detectives identified Gilbert as a suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gilbert for the above listed criminal charges on September 3, 2024.
Gilbert was taken into custody by members of the US Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force during the morning hours of September 10, 2024, in the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive in Bolingbrook. Gilbert was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
At the time of today’s arrest, Gilbert was on pretrial release for a gun charge in April of 2024.
