Will County Forest Preseve Programs
Tap into turtles, chomp into food truck fare, view migratory birds or volunteer to help remove invasive species during upcoming Forest Preserve District of Will County programs. Online registration is available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org. Here is the lineup:
Discovery Isle – Turtles: 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville. Drop in anytime from 1-3 p.m. to learn amazing turtle facts. Free, all ages.
Fun & Food Trucks: 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 7, Hammel Woods – Route 59 Access, Shorewood. This is the second of three summer food truck programs in the preserves. Trucks that will be featured at Grumpy Gaucho, Life’s a Slice and Crave Belly. Flight Deck will serve ice-cold margaritas. Family-friendly activities also will be available. Music will be provided by Michael C Hayes. Free admission, all ages.
Lake Renwick Migratory Bird Viewing: 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 8, Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, Plainfield. See the dazzling display of nesting herons, egrets, cormorants and bald eagles. The preserve has controlled access during nesting season to minimize disturbances to nesting birds, so the only way to view these amazing creatures at Lake Renwick during this time of year is to attend a viewing program. Volunteers and staff will be at the viewing platform and visitor center to answer questions. Bringing your own binoculars or spotting scope is recommended. Free, ages 7 or older.
Volunteer Morning: 8-11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, Sugar Creek Preserve, Joliet. Get some fresh air and exercise while helping to make a difference in your community by attending one or more of the Forest Preserve’s volunteer mornings. Activities will include invasive weed control. Space is limited; registration is required. To get started, complete a waiver online.
