Hundreds of police departments use camera company accused of breaking state law

On January 22, 2026, at 9:29 p.m., officers responded to the area of Second Avenue and Hobbs Avenue for a report of shots fired.

While officers responded, it was learned that an adult female had been struck by gunfire at a nearby residence in the 700 block of Second Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old woman suffering from an apparent graze wound to the abdomen. The preliminary investigation determined that the gunfire originated from outside of the residence, and the victim was struck while inside the living room of the home.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment of her injuries, which are considered non-life-threatening.

Officers canvassed the area and recovered more than 20 spent shell casings in the area outside the residence, which had been struck by numerous rounds of gunfire.

Officers also discovered that an occupied residence in the 100 block of Hobbs Avenue had been struck by gunfire as well. No injuries were reported at that location.

The motive for this shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or information related to this shooting is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Investigation Division at 815-724-3020.

They can also contact Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734 or online at https://crimestoppersofwillcounty.org/ if they wish to remain anonymous.
