Arrest Made in McDonough Street Stabbing

Simms

Jesus Simms (32, Joliet) has been charged with Attempted Murder, Armed Violence, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery (three counts), and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon.

Detectives identified Simms as the suspect accused of stabbing a 45-year-old male victim multiple times near South Ottawa Street and McDonough Street during the early evening hours of November 12, 2025.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on November 13, 2025, Joliet Police Tactical Officers observed Simms in the 200 block of Sheridan Street. Simms ran from the Officers when they attempted to stop and speak to him. It was believed that Simms ran into a residence in the 500 block of South Joliet Street.

Detectives, Tactical Officers, and Patrol Officers then established a perimeter around this residence. Officers were granted consent to search the home by the homeowner. At the onset of a K9 assisted search, Simms exited the residence, and he was placed into custody without further incident.

Simms was transported to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department after he requested medical assistance due to narcotics intoxication.

This case was reviewed by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, and they approved the above listed charges. Simms was released from the hospital hours later and he was processed at the Joliet Police Department and then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

“The swift identification, location, and arrest of Jesus Simms reflects the exemplary teamwork demonstrated by our Detectives, Tactical Officers, Patrol Officers, Narcotics Officers, Evidence Technicians, and K9 Officers, whose coordinated efforts brought a dangerous offender into custody without further harm to the public,” said Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans

We are grateful to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office for their timely review and approval of charges, which helped move this case forward without delay. We also extend our well wishes to the victim as he continues his recovery in the hospital. I am extremely proud of the dedication, communication, and discipline shown throughout this investigation, which once again highlights the commitment of the Joliet Police Department to protecting our community with integrity and teamwork.”
