UPDATE

On October 30, 2025, at approximately 11:55 a.m., Will County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to take 26-year-old Corey D. Jacobs, of Joliet, into custody following a months-long narcotics investigation. Jacobs was seated in the driver’s seat of a red Chevrolet sedan parked in a parking lot in the 1500 block of West Jefferson Street. When deputies approached the vehicle and announced themselves, Jacobs fled at a high rate of speed out of the parking lot and headed eastbound on West Jefferson Street. Deputies did not pursue the vehicle.
As Jacobs approached the intersection of Reed Street and West Jefferson Street, he failed to stop for a red light and entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, striking five vehicles. Deputies arrived on scene moments later and immediately began providing emergency aid to those injured.
A fire that ignited in the engine compartment of Jacobs’ vehicle was quickly extinguished by deputies using fire extinguishers. Both Jacobs and his front-seat passenger were extricated from the vehicle and treated at the scene before being transported to an area hospital.
In total, eight people were involved in the crash. Seven were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from back pain to multiple broken bones, and one person refused treatment at the scene. Fortunately, none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
A search of Jacobs’ vehicle revealed cocaine, fentanyl, and an AR-15-style pistol. Jacobs suffered a broken ankle and will be transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility upon his release from the hospital.
Corey D Jacobs faces the following charges:
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Offender
  • Armed Violence
  • Manufacturing/Delivery of Cocaine (3 counts)
  • Manufacturing/Delivery of Fentanyl
  • Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding – Property Damage
  • Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding – Personal Injury
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Sheriff Mike Kelley stated,
“For the second time in as many days, we have captured offenders who put the lives of deputies and the public in grave danger. Unfortunately, this time, the offender’s reckless actions injured several innocent people. I hope those who were hurt make a quick and full recovery. I want to thank the Joliet Fire Department and the Joliet Police Department for their swift and professional response to this incident.”

Earlier this afternoon, a multi-vehicle traffic crash occurred following an incident near the intersection of O’Neill Street and West Jefferson Street in Joliet.

Will County Sheriff’s Deputies had been conducting an investigation in the area when they attempted to take an individual into custody. The subject fled the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed, eastbound on West Jefferson Street.

Deputies did not pursue the fleeing vehicle. Moments later, the offender was involved in a collision with several other vehicles near Reed Street.

Deputies immediately rendered aid to all individuals involved until medical personnel arrived. Several people, including the fleeing offender, were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

This investigation remains active. Additional information will be released in the near future. The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as investigators work to gather all the facts surrounding this incident.
