On September 16, 2025, at 9:01 p.m., Officers responded to the 100 block of Margaret Street for
a report of a male firing a handgun from a vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers located a spent shell casing in the street.
During a canvass of the area, Officers learned that residents heard a single gunshot and observed a male driving from the scene in a vehicle while yelling toward a nearby residence. Planeta was identified as a suspect, and Officers obtained a description of the vehicle and its registration information. No injuries were reported.
Approximately 10 minutes later, Officers located the suspect vehicle unoccupied and running in the parking lot of Home Cut Donuts (815 West Jefferson Street). Officers observed a handgun on the passenger seat inside of the vehicle.
Planeta was placed into custody without incident by Officers after he exited the business. Officers determined that Planeta appeared to be impaired by alcohol.
The loaded handgun was recovered from Planeta’s vehicle and Officers learned that the handgun had been reported stolen from Warrenville, Illinois. It was further determined that Planeta had a revoked driver’s license and multiple prior DUI convictions across several counties.
Following a review of this case, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charges listed above.
