A Visit with Conservation Royalty
The Deutsche Family was chosen to receive the 2025 Conservation Farm Family Award by the Will-South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District (WSCSWCD). The farm is in Monee Township, Crete, Illinois, and it has a long history dating back to 1847.
On July 16, a farm tour hosted by the WSCSWCD, was enjoyed by 40-45 people who spent a morning on top of hayracks viewing many conservation practices on this farm. What is commendable is the commitment by the fifth generation of the Deutsche family to continue practicing soil and water and water conservation, while remaining open-minded to explore new methods of improving their soil resources.
There was something for everyone where presenters at several locations spoke about the following: woodland management, drainage management, conservation practices and information on soil health.
Following the tour, lunch was provided by the Soil and Water Conservation District, which smaller groups gathered and discussed the highlights of the tour.
