Two Injured in Benton Street Shooting
Officers responded to the 500 block of East Benton Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a 22-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the back and a 23-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers rendered medical aid to the victims prior to the arrival of paramedics. Both victims were transported to local hospitals by the Joliet Fire Department. The injuries to both victims are non-life threatening.
A preliminary investigation of the shooting determined that both victims were shot while standing near a vehicle in the 500 block of East Benton Street. It is believed that the gunshots were fired from down the street.
During a canvass of the area, Officers discovered that one residence and multiple unoccupied vehicles had been struck by the gunfire. Multiple spent shell casings were recovered from the scene.
