Joliet Man Arrested on Robbery, Battery Charges
Markese Rhodes (25, Joliet) was arrested and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Armed Robbery (Class X Felony) and Battery.
On July 19, 2025, at 12:25 p.m., Officers responded to the Citgo Gas Station (356 Scott Street) for a report of a robbery.
Upon arrival, Officers learned that Rhodes entered the store and began filling a backpack with merchandise. He then approached the counter and allegedly demanded money from the store employee while placing his hand on his waistband, implying he may be armed.
Another employee intervened and attempted to take the backpack from Rhodes, who responded by pushing the employee. Once outside, Rhodes reportedly pulled a large knife from his pants before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
Officers located Rhodes nearby and took him into custody without incident. The case was reviewed by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the listed charges.
Rhodes had also been arrested the previous day, July 18, 2025, after he allegedly stole a tip jar containing cash from a concession stand at the Joliet Slammers baseball stadium. He was released on a Notice to Appear for Theft and Obstructing a Peace Officer in connection with that incident.
