Joliet Police Seek Help in Fatal Accident Investigation
On January 25, 2024, at 6:49 p.m., Officers responded to the southbound lanes of North Larkin Avenue near Clara Avenue for a report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival to the scene, Officers located an unresponsive 45-year-old male in in the southbound curb lane of North Larkin Avenue. Officers immediately provided medical assistance to the male until arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics.
While conducting a preliminary investigation of this crash, Officers learned that the male pedestrian had been struck by a Chevrolet Malibu that was southbound on North Larkin Avenue near Clara Avenue, and that the vehicle continued driving without stopping following the crash.
It was further determined that the victim was struck by a second vehicle, a Toyota Sienna driven by a 38-year-old female Joliet resident, which was southbound on North Larkin Avenue.
Following the crash, the female driver remained at the scene and contacted 911.
Officers noted that there was no crosswalk located where the pedestrian had been in the roadway.
The pedestrian was transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased.
A short time later, Officers were able to locate the Chevrolet Malibu involved in this crash, in the 400 block of Bridge Street and located its driver, identified as a 37-year-old Joliet resident. The driver was transported to the Joliet Police Department for further questioning and was cooperative throughout this investigation.
