Hey, Campers! A.C.T. Now Staging Comeback

A.C.T. Now (Arts and Community Theatre Now) is offering an old favorite summer camp for elementary and high school students, taking the stage once again as “Summertime on Stage.”

After 25 years, the group has a new location — St. Francis Hall at St. John the Baptist Parish, 403 N. Hickory St., Joliet — but the mission will be the same, said Camp Founder Lori Carmine.

Registration is open for their 26th production. Campers will enjoy the experience of producing and performing in a full musical, led by Carmine, Mark Epling, Elana Carmine, Carrie Lee and Tamara Martinez.

The annual theatre camp helps students, entering kindergarten through entering senior year in high school, of all experience levels, learn the ins and outs of theatre production, both on and off the stage. The teen group ranges from incoming 6th graders to incoming high school seniors, while the half-day junior group ranges from 5 years old to incoming 5th graders.

Students will learn the basics of acting, singing, and choreography from experienced teachers, along with choosing an off stage focus in costume, set, or prop design.

Camp starts on Monday, June 22, and runs through Sunday, July 19, ending with two performances of “Fiddler on the Roof,” in which all the campers will participate, presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
