On September 12, 2025, at 12:59 p.m., Officers responded to South Chicago Street (Route 53) and Schweitzer Road for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

A preliminary investigation of the crash determined that a Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by a male (54, Cumming, Georgia) was exiting a private business in the 3400 block of South Chicago Street, facing eastbound.

It is believed that the tractor-trailer initiated a left turn toward northbound South Chicago Street and collided with a Chevrolet Sonic driven by a male (28, Joliet) that was southbound on South Chicago Street. The driver of the Chevrolet was ejected from the vehicle in the collision.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

The roadway was closed for several hours while Joliet Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash scene. Identification and manner of death of the driver of the Chevrolet will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
