Farm Days Gone By

From Doug Gougar: Taken around 1910, Harlow Webster Gougar and hired hand Ray McCune standing next to a beautiful team of horses all decked out in gear pulling a wheel driven manure spreader. This picture was taken in front of the barn on the Gougar Farm. The barn was built in 1875 by Harlow's father, my great grandfather, Joseph Emerson Gougar. At that time, the barn was consider a show place highlighted by the 4-gabled cupelo and a tiled silo (not visible in this view). We often wonder when looking at this photo how long it took to get the team of horses ready and hooked up to the implements in those days.
