NOTICE OF PROPOSED PROPERTY
TAX INCREASE FOR THE
MANHATTAN-ELWOOD PUBLIC
LIBRARY DISTRICT

I. A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Manhattan-Elwood Public Library District for 2023 will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., at the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library, 240 Whitson Street, P.O. Box 53, Manhattan, Illinois 60442.

II. The corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for 2022 were ONE MILLION THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-SEVEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED SIXTY-SIX DOLLARS ($1,387,666).

The proposed corporate and special purpose property taxes to be levied for 2023 are TWO MILLION TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-TWO THOUSAND FORTY-TWO DOLLARS ($2,282,042). This represents a 64% increase over the previous year.

III. The property taxes extended for debt service and public building commission leases for 2022 were $112,000.

The estimated property taxes to be levied for debt service and public building commission leases for 2023 are $200,000. This represents a 178% increase over the previous year.

IV. The total property taxes extended or abated for 2022 were ONE MILLION THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY-SEVEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED SIXTY-SIX DOLLARS ($1,387,666).

The estimated total property taxes to be levied for 2023 are TWO MILLION TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-TWO THOUSAND FORTY-TWO DOLLARS ($2,282,042). This represents a 64% increase over the previous year.
