Manhattan-Elwood Public Library Public Notice for Levy

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that, by Ordinance adopted on the 8th day of July, 2024, the Board of Trustees of the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library District determined to levy an additional tax of 0.02% of the value of all taxable property in the District, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, for the purchase of sites and buildings, the construction and equipment of buildings, the rental of buildings required for library purposes, and maintenance, repairs, and alterations of library buildings and equipment, said tax levy to be effective for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The text of said ordinance is set forth below.
The question of levying a 0.02% tax shall be submitted to the electors of the District if a petition is filed with Board signed by 1,077 registered voters in the District asking that the question of levying said 0.02% tax be submitted to the electors of the District. Said petition must be filed within thirty (30) days after publication of this Public Notice. The date of the prospective referendum is November 5, 2024.
