Longest Night Service at Faith Lutheran

Faith Lutheran Church, 353 N. Midland Ave., Joliet, is offering a “Longest Night” service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
While the holidays are often presented as times of joy and happiness, sometimes grief, anxiety and depression can accompany us through the season.
That’s why Faith Lutheran will be offering a “Longest Night,” also called a “Blue Christmas” service, held on, or close to, the winter solstice – that day with the least sunlight and the longest period of darkness.
The service is quiet and reflective in tone, giving space for emotions such as sadness, loss or grief, along with words of hope and a reminder that even the most shadowed night eventually gives way to dawn and new hope.
There will be a space for remembrance of what has been lost through candle lighting, as well as scriptures, readings and songs. Anyone experiencing grief or loss is welcome to join us for this service.
We would be honored if you joined us.
