Arrests Made in Connection with Shooting of 5-Year-Old

Under bill, state highway cameras could be used to investigate human trafficking

On June 26, 2025, Amin A. Hudson, 38, of Joliet, was arrested, booked, and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF) on a Will County warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon in connection to the shooting of a 5-year-old boy by an 8-year-old relative.

On June 26, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., Detective John Beck met with assistants from the State’s Attorney’s Office to propose charges against Amin A. Hudson. The assistant approved charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon for Hudson. The Honorable Judge Harvey of Will County reviewed and signed the arrest warrant.

On June 26, 2025, at about 6 p.m., Joliet Tactical Officers were notified of an arrest warrant for Amin Hudson. They conducted surveillance in an area where they expected him to be present. The tactical officers observed Hudson and apprehended him. He was subsequently transported to the Joliet Police Investigations Division.

Amin A. Hudson is a resident where the shooting took place. The investigation revealed that he was the owner of the firearm used in the shooting of the 5-year-old victim. Detective Beck reviewed evidence indicating that Amin Hudson had possessed the firearm for several months prior to the incident.

Additionally, the investigation uncovered that at the time of the shooting, Amin Hudson had previously been convicted of a Class 2 felony or greater under the Illinois Controlled Substance Act for the delivery of a controlled substance, as documented in Will County case number 2021 CF 1715.

Amin Hudson was processed and subsequently taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF) without any incidents.

An initial investigation has revealed that the child was shot while in the care of a family member at a residence in the 500 block of Dover Street. It is believed that an 8-year-old relative of the victim had accessed a handgun in a bedroom of the home and shot the 5-year-old victim, striking him, initially reported to be in the abdomen, but was actually in his arm.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by family members and was then airlifted to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago in critical condition.

Detectives responded to the scene and hospital and interviewed all parties, including the 8-year- old child. DCFS was notified. Officers recovered the handgun from the residence.

He has undergone several surgeries since the incident. According to his mother, he is doing well and is currently in her care.

On June 21, 2025, Denise A. Hudson (62, Joliet) was arrested, booked, and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF) on a Will County Warrant for Endangering the Health and Life of a Child.

Denise Hudson, Amin Hudson’s mother and aunt to the mother of the victim, was babysitting the victim when the shooting occurred, police said.

The investigation revealed that Denise Hudson failed to call 9-1-1 to request medical assistance for the victim. Detective Beck reviewed evidence indicating that the shooting took place more than one and a half hours before the Joliet Police received the first 9-1-1 call, which was made by the victim’s mother from the hospital.

Denise Hudson’s statements have been inconsistent and lack credibility, Police said.

While being questioned, Hudson experienced illness and shortness of breath. The Joliet Fire Department was called to assess her condition. She was then transported to the hospital for treatment.

After receiving care, Denise Hudson was discharged and returned to the Joliet Police Department for processing.

Subsequently, she was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility (WCADF) without any further incidents.
