Police Investigating Fatal Black Road Crash

Under bill, state highway cameras could be used to investigate human trafficking

On June 14, 2025, at 6:54 p.m., Officers responded to Black Road and Magnolia Drive for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

A preliminary investigation of the crash determined that a Buick Regal driven by a male (57, Joliet) was westbound on Black Road approaching Magnolia Drive. It is believed that the Buick veered left into an eastbound lane of Black Road, striking an eastbound Buick Encore driven by a female (68, Joliet) head-on.

This collision caused the Buick Regal to then strike a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a male (26, Joliet) that was also eastbound on Black Road.

The driver of the Buick Regal was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Will County Coroner Laurie Summers reported the death of David Lee Nelson, 57, of Plainfield, who was pronounced deceased at 7:32 p.m. on Saturday June14, at Prime St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet, the result of a motor vehicle crash.

An Autopsy was performed on Saturday June 15th, 2025. Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports.

The driver and female passenger (69, Lake Station, IN) of the Buick Encore were transported to St Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.

This traffic crash remains under active investigation. The roadway was temporarily closed to allow Joliet Police Department Traffic Investigators to conduct a thorough reconstruction of the scene.
