Want to Hire a Cat for Farm Work?

Will County Animal Protection Services is in desperate need of “adopters” of their Whiskers at Work adoption program of adult feral or semi feral cats that are normally considered unadoptable in a shelter environment and are better utilized to assist with rodent control in the barns or other large spaces in the agricultural environment.
You will basically “hire” the barn cat to work for you by providing them a place to hang out on a farm. Most of these cats are not used to “human contact” or suitable to living in a traditional home setting and most of these cats would not be happy as house cats.
The Whiskers at Work program is for all residents that live or work on agricultural – zoned property and in order to qualify, you must own the property that the barn cat will be deployed. Adoption fees are waived once you are accepted as an adoptee through the Whiskers at Work program.
Adoptable cats in this program are: spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, tested for Feluk/FIV, microchipped and ear notched.
Contact the Will County Animal Control to start this process at [email protected]. You will receive an application and information about how to make the transition to your property as seamless as possible for the barn cats.
Once accepted in the program, preparations will begin for locating a Whiskers at Work cat to your property. For more information or questions, reach out to Will County Animal Control at 815-462-5633.
