Annual Book Recycling Event Set at Pilcher

Will County’s 2025 Book Recycling Event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30 to June 1 at the Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Park Drive, Joliet.

Several rooms of the Nature Center will have rows of tables loaded with books by category and for all ages, from pre-K to college textbooks. All free!

If you need to make room for the new treasures, bring your unwanted books in, where they will be sorted for others to pick up and enjoy, especially children’s books, novels and cookbooks.

Last year’s event saw over 1,800 attendees stop by dropping off books or browsing the selection of books. Over 80,000 books found new homes, with 10,000 books being shipped for recycling following the event.

Schools, libraries, and individuals can bring unused and unwanted books for reuse and recycling. Hardcover and paperback books will be accepted and shared for free to attendees.

Organizations wishing to schedule a drop off can call (815) 727-8834 and arrange an appointment to drop off large quantities of books. Large drop offs are only accepted Tuesday through Thursday before the event is open to the public.

This popular annual event is sponsored by the Will County Land Use, Resource, Recovery and Energy Division.

Highland Park Drive is a veer to the left, just east of Briggs Street off of Route 30 (Cass Street). For more information, visit www.willcountygreen.com, or call 815 727 8834.
