Frankfort Sets Yacht Rock Party
Frankfort will set sail into summer with its annual Kickoff to Summer Celebration with the theme, “All things Yacht Rock,” on Sunday, June 1, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Breidert Green in Downtown Frankfort.
The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with DJ Don Gray at the helm, spinning the hits to get the party started. Throughout the afternoon, guests can enjoy hula hoop contests, limbo challenges, a water balloon toss, and classic lawn games.
Kids and kids-at-heart will dive into fun with Bubble Captain Jason Kollum, navigating a sea of bubbles, alongside a knot-ical balloon artist and a face painter ready to chart a course for colorful creations.
La Michoacana de Frankfort will be on deck from 5 to 6 p.m., serving up their famous homemade popsicles to the first 500 guests.
Car enthusiasts can cruise through time at the mini car show, brought to shore by the Frankfort Car Club, showcasing iconic vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s.
As the sun sets, the celebration reaches full sail with a live performance from The Yacht Rock-ettes, Chicago’s favorite female-fronted yacht rock band. From 6 to 8 p.m., they’ll perform smooth, nostalgic soft rock hits by Michael McDonald, Hall & Oates, Toto and more.
Attendees are encouraged to embrace the Yacht Rock spirit by dressing in their best retro nautical style, think breezy linens, bold prints, boat shoes, and, of course, a captain’s hat!
“We’re turning up the smooth this summer!” said Mayor Keith Ogle. “So, grab your shades and gather your crew— this event is the perfect way to cruise into summer together!”
