Two Teens Suspected of Arson in Vacated Larry’s Diner Fire

Plainfield, IL – On Monday, March 24, the Plainfield Police Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire at the former Larry’s Diner, 24522 W. Lockport St.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel observed large flames on the north side of the building. Firefighters from the Plainfield Fire Protection District quickly began working to extinguish the fire, while fire investigators commenced a thorough examination to determine its cause.
During the preliminary investigation, investigators identified the origin of the fire and determined it appeared to have been intentionally set.
Two 14-year-old juveniles, who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident, were identified as persons of interest.
As the investigation continued, fire investigators collaborated with Plainfield Police Department detectives to collect additional evidence related to the suspected arson.
Approximately one week later, the Plainfield Police Department received a report of criminal damage to property at a location near Lockport Street and Wood Farm Road.
During that investigation, detectives determined that the same two juveniles were responsible for the damage.
The juveniles were taken into custody and charged with Criminal Damage to Property. During the arrest, detectives obtained a search warrant for the juveniles’ cellular phones.
A forensic examination of the devices yielded evidence linking the suspects to the March 24th arson.
As a result, on May 8, 2025, both juveniles were taken into custody and formally charged with Arson and a felony count of Criminal Damage to Property.
The Plainfield Police Department and the Plainfield Fire Protection District commend the diligent efforts of all investigators and first responders involved in bringing this case to resolution.
