Adopt a Native Plant – Part Sun: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville. Learn how sun exposure affects plant success and adopt three native plants to take home. For yards with partial sun. Plants provided. Ages 16 or older; $5. Register by Wednesday, May 7.
Mother’s Day at Monee Reservoir: 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, Monee Reservoir, Monee Township. Moms can enjoy free fishing, paddling or hiking and receive a small gift at the concessions. All ages; free.
Lake Renwick Migratory Bird Viewing: 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 10, Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, Plainfield. Observe herons, egrets, cormorants and more during this limited-access bird viewing event. Volunteers and staff will be on site. All ages; free.
World Migratory Bird Day Hike: 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, Monee Reservoir. Take a morning hike in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day and identify birds with the Merlin app. Hike up to 1.5 miles on uneven terrain. Ages 10 or older; free. Register by Wednesday, May 7.
Spring Scamper Fun Run: 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, Hadley Valley – Gougar Road Access, Joliet. Enjoy a 2.5-mile fun run or walk with activities including face painting, photo booth, lawn games, seed planting and refreshments. All ages; free. Register by Wednesday, May 7.
World Migratory Bird Day – Backyard Birding with Wild Birds Unlimited: 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Learn birding basics and feeding tips from experts with Wild Birds Unlimited. Ages 14 or older; free. Register by Friday, May 9.
Meet a Beekeeper: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 10, Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township. Meet local beekeeper Dade Bradley to discuss beekeeping and get your questions answered. All ages; free.
Mother’s Day Appreciation: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, Hidden Lakes Trout Farm, Bolingbrook. Moms can fish or hike for free and pick up a giveaway at the Tackle Box. Free fishing pole rentals available. All ages; free.
Where the Wildflowers Are: 9:30-11 a.m. Sunday, May 11, Messenger Woods Nature Preserve. Hike with a naturalist to see and learn about native wildflowers and their stories. Ages 10 or older; free. Register by Friday, May 9.
