Here are the Forest Preserve District of Will County programs for the week of April 28. Online registration is available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.

Where Feathers Meet the Flash Photo Contest: 8 a.m.-sunset, May 1-31, McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove, Channahon. Celebrate migratory bird season with the annual bird photography competition for all ages. Submit your photo of a wild bird taken at McKinley Woods for a chance to win a gift certificate for the Cornell Lab Bird Academy and bird-feeding supplies from Wild Birds Unlimited of Joliet. Visit Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon, to check out recent sightings and find top photo spots. Register your photo using the QR codes at the visitor center and along the trails. Ages 17 and younger (junior edition) or 18 and older (adult edition); free.

Adopt a Native Plant – Full Sun: 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, Plum Creek Nature Center, Crete Township. Learn how sun exposure affects plant selection, then adopt three native plants suited for full-sun yards. Discover how to help your yard bloom throughout the year. Ages 16 or older; $5 per person. Register by Wednesday, April 30.

Lake Renwick Migratory Bird Viewing: 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 3, Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, Plainfield. Witness nesting herons, egrets, cormorants and possibly a bald eagle. Volunteers and staff will be on hand to answer questions. Binoculars or a spotting scope are recommended. Migratory Bird Viewing programs will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon through Aug. 9. All ages; free.

Hidden Around the Oaks: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, May 3-31, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Bolingbrook. Match zoomed-in photos to new exhibits and displays throughout the building for a chance to win a prize. Explore the litter critter corner, meet reptiles and observe birds from the new indoor station. All ages; free.

Where the Wildflowers Are – Four Rivers: 8:30-10 a.m. Sunday, May 4, Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, Channahon. Discover spring wildflowers like bluebells and mayapples on a guided hike, and hear their stories, legends and uses through time. Ages 10 or older; free.
