Here are the Forest Preserve District of Will County programs for the week of April 7. Online registration is available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.

A Voyageur’s Life – Field Trip for Homeschool and Remote Learners: 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, Isle a la Cache, Romeoville. Discover the challenges, risks and rewards of being a French fur trader in the 1700s. Students will practice essential skills and explore the knowledge needed to survive the journey in search of furs. This is an opportunity for homeschoolers or remote learning students to experience the museum’s field trip programs. Free; ages 7-12. Register by Friday, April 4.

Living on the Land – Field Trip for Homeschool and Remote Learners: 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, Isle a la Cache. Learn how the Potawatomi people prepared for the changing seasons and their connection to the land. Students will explore traditional skills and daily life activities. Free; ages 7-12. Register by Friday, April 4.

First Time Fishing: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, Hidden Lakes Trout Farm, Bolingbrook. Learn fishing basics, including how to put tackle on a pole, bait a hook and cast. Then, try out your new skills along the shoreline with help from an instructor. All materials provided. Ages 8 or older; $5 per person. Register by Thursday, April 10.

Spring Biking Kickoff With REI: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 12, Prairie Bluff Preserve, Crest Hill. Get your bike ready for the season with maintenance tips from REI and the Orland Park Co-op bike shop. Learn about trail safety and enjoy a ride through the preserve. Visit the shelter for a presentation and get swag, trail maps and safety materials. All riders must bring their own bicycle and helmet, though riding is not required to participate in the program. Free, all ages

Recycle Your Bicycle: Preserve hours, Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 27, at three locations – Monee Reservoir, Monee Township; Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Bolingbrook; and McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove, Channahon. The Forest Preserve is collecting old bikes on behalf of Working Bikes, workingbikes.org, an organization that refurbishes and distributes bikes locally and globally as tools of empowerment. No bike is too old or rusty!

Spring Cleanup: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 13, Rock Run Rookery Preserve, Joliet. Celebrate Earth Day early by helping clean up the shoreline of the Des Plaines River. Enjoy the fresh air while making a difference! Free; ages 14 or older. Register by Friday, April 11.
