State highway shootings decline as critics sue over ‘dragnet surveillance’

On March 27, 2025, 41-year-old Daniel T. Herod was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations. Herod will appear in Will County Court, room 405, this morning at 9:30 am.

Daniel Herod has been employed with the Will County Sheriff’s Office since May of 2010 and most recently served as a Deputy Correctional Officer at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

As this remains an active and open investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations, the Will County Sheriff’s Office will not be providing further comments at this time.

A response from ICE officials:

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations conducted a criminal law enforcement operation in Elwood yesterday. There is no threat to the public and the matter remains an ongoing investigation. Please contact Will County State’s Attorney’s Office for more information.”
