Police Charge Man in Sunmeadow Drive Shooting

Michael Gallegos (34, Joliet) was arrested, processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility on the charges of Aggravated Battery
with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by Felon, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition by Felon.
On March 22, 2025, at 11:32 p.m., Officers responded to a residence in the 5300 block of Sunmeadow Drive for a report of a person shot.
As Officers responded, it was learned that the shooting victim had already been transported to St Joseph Medical Center by private vehicle.
Additional Officers responded to the hospital where they discovered three total individuals had been shot while at the residence on Sunmeadow Drive.
A 38-year-old male sustained a life- threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen, a 55-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to an ankle, and a 32-year-old female had sustained a graze gunshot wound to the thigh. Both female victims were treated at the hospital and released.
As this investigation progressed, it was determined that the shooting occurred during a gathering of individuals at the Sunmeadow Drive home. Michael Gallegos was identified by Detectives as the suspect in this shooting. During an argument in the residence, it is alleged that Gallegos produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds, striking the male victim in the abdomen. It is believed that the two female victim were struck by stray gunfire. Gallegos fled the residence
following the shooting.
Gallegos was placed into custody on March 23, 2025, at 9:08 a.m., following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Collins Street.
