Joliet Police Make Arrests in West Side Shooting

State highway shootings decline as critics sue over ‘dragnet surveillance’

Jamarion Poston (22, Lockport) was arrested, processed, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Michael Brophy (41, Joliet) was arrested, processed, and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by Felon and Violation of Pre- Trial Release.

Brophy was processed and released on a Notice to Appear for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.

On March 7, 2025, at 11:07 p.m., Officers responded to the 100 block of North May Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers located an SUV leaving the scene.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and Poston was identified as the driver. Five male passengers between the ages of 16 and 17 were also detained from the traffic stop but later released pending further investigation. Upon search of the vehicle, two loaded handguns were recovered.

Poston was placed into custody without incident.

Officers discovered numerous spent shell casings in the area, and it was determined that two homes in the 100 block of North May Street and one home in the 1000 block of Oneida Street had been struck.

As the investigation progressed, it was learned that an uninvolved adult female suffered a graze gunshot wound to her leg while she sat in a vehicle in a driveway in the 1000 block of Oneida Street.

She was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation led to the search of one of the homes struck by gunfire where Officers discovered ammunition.

Additionally, a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the week was discovered in the garage. The homeowner, Brophy, was placed into custody without incident.
