Police Investigating Pico Court Homicide

Massey’s death underscores state delay in launching mental health response program

On 03/09/2025, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Will County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of shots fired in the 1300 block of Pico Court in Unincorporated Joliet.

Several people called 911 and stated that numerous shots were fired in the area.

While responding to the scene, deputies learned that an individual had been shot inside of a residence.

Upon deputies arriving in the area, it was determined that two residences had been struck by gunfire and one injury was reported to deputies.

Responding deputies located a 34-year-old male from Joliet inside one of the bedrooms of a residence, who had a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Responding deputies began providing lifesaving measures to the victim, until paramedics arrived from the East Joliet Fire Protection District.

The 34-year-old was transported to a local area hospital and would later succumb to his injuries. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) were summoned to the scene to conduct this homicide death investigation.

Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reported the death of Branden C. Pierce, 34, who was pronounced deceased at 1:24 a.m. on Sunday March 9, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet, the result of an apparent homicide, which occurred in the 1300 blk of Pico Ct in Joliet Township.

An autopsy was performed on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports.

Surveillance video obtained by responding personnel indicated that an unknown vehicle was seen in the area just before the shooting.

This shooting appears to be an isolated targeted attack, and not a random act of violence.

Detectives are still in the area investigating this shooting, so please avoid the area if possible.
