State Police Arrest Joliet Man in Road Rage Incident

State highway shootings decline as critics sue over ‘dragnet surveillance’

Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 22-year-old Kenneth Curry III of Joliet for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) stemming from a road rage incident in 2023.

On November 13, 2023, at approximately 4:18 p.m., ISP responded to the report of an expressway shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway, Interstate 94 southbound near 120th Street.

The suspect, later identified as Curry III, reportedly fired a weapon at the victim’s vehicle. The victim’s vehicle was struck multiple times, but the victims were not injured. ​

On February 3, 2025, ISP and FBI agents located Curry and took him into custody. ISP presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the above-mentioned charge was filed. Curry III is being held at the Chicago Police Department 5th District pending his first court appearance.
