One Dead in Lemont High-Speed Crash

Massey’s death underscores state delay in launching mental health response program

Today at about 2:11 a.m., Lemont Police and Cook County Police responded to an accident on 135th Street, 1/4 mile west of Archer Avenue.

Cook County advised a single-vehicle accident with Homer Fire Department on scene extricating the male driver (age 34), and the front seat male passenger (age 36) who was deceased, later identified by Will County Coroner Laurie Summers as Sameer S. Gowani, 36, of Lisle.

Cook County PD then turned the scene over to Will County Sheriff deputies.

Deputies report that the backseat male passenger, (age 33), had been ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition, and the driver was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in stable condition.

Initial traffic investigation reports state that the Tesla Model 3 was traveling east on 135th Street at a high rate of speed as it was coming into the curve 1/4 mile west of Archer Avenue when the driver lost control.

The vehicle crossed over the double yellow line into oncoming westbound traffic and struck the curb on the north side of the roadway.

The vehicle then went airborne, touching down in a grassy area near the entrance of the Target store. The vehicle then continued in a northeast direction, over a raised median, and struck another curb before going down the embankment.

The vehicle went over Long Run Creek until it came to rest on the east side of the creek.

Area roads were closed around the accident site, but are now open.

Charges have not been filed for the driver, but are being reviewed at this time.
