Westbound I-80 Lane Changes Dec. 16

LANE-CLOSURE

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of the ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 in Minooka, Joliet and New Lenox, a stage change is scheduled to take place on westbound I-80 beginning, weather permitting, Monday, Dec. 16.

To facilitate the stage change, starting at 9 p.m. Monday, lane closures will take place on westbound I-80 between Interstate 55 and Ridge Road. At least one westbound lane will remain open at all times. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday, when the new traffic pattern will be in place.

In the new configuration, westbound I-80 will be shifted over to the eastbound side just before River Road, separated by barrier wall, and will shift back westbound just before Ridge Road.

The new configuration will allow westbound I-80 between River and Ridge roads to be rebuilt and is expected to remain in place through fall 2025.

Throughout construction, two lanes in each direction will remain open to traffic.

As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
