Shots Fired in Attempted Iowa Street Robbery

On December 8, 2024, at about 4:30 pm, officers responded to the 100 block of Iowa St. regarding shots being fired and an attempted robbery.
The suspect was described as a male, black subject wearing all black clothing in his early 20s and approximately 6 feet tall. This suspect was armed with a handgun.
The officers met with victim who advised he was inspecting a residence in the 100 block of Iowa St. to possibly renovate and purchase. Prior to making entry into the residence, the victim was approached by the suspect.
The suspect told the victim that he would be willing to rent the residence from him if he purchased it. The victim agreed to allow the suspect to check out the inside of the residence with him.
Once inside, the suspect brandished a firearm and demanded money from the victim. The victim fled to his vehicle while being chased by the suspect.
As the victim drove away, the suspect fired several shots at the vehicle, striking it several times.
The suspect fled south bound on foot from the 100 block of Iowa St. Joliet Police drones and K9 were deployed in attempt to locate the suspect.
Will County Sheriff’s Police units assisted in the search for the suspect. The suspect could not be located.
This is an active investigation in its early stages as Joliet Police Burglary and Robbery Detectives work to identify the suspect.
