BREAKING — Former Local Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO Indicted for Theft

Sheriff Mike Kelley announced that Theodore Brodeur (age 55) of Shorewood has been indicted by the Will County Grand Jury for the offense of Theft.
Brodeur is the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Will and Grundy Counties.
On 01/03/2024, the Joliet Police Department contacted the Will County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and requested that the Sheriff’s Office investigate an alleged theft involving Brodeur. The Joliet Police Department took the original complaint but elected to have the WCSO investigate the complaint in order to avoid a potential conflict of interest.
After an extensive investigation, detectives were able to determine that Theodore Brodeur had been using debit cards associated to the organization’s bank account for his personal use when he was not authorized to do so.
Detective’s interviewed Theodore Brodeur regarding the alleged allegations, and he made incriminating statements regarding the use of the BBBS debit cards for his own personal gain.
After an exhaustive search conducted by detectives, they were able to obtain numerous documents, financial statements, surveillance videos, and other documents related to this financial crime investigation. These evidence items came from various organizations, financial providers, retailers and other businesses.
On 08/30/2024, detectives met with Special Prosecutor William “Bill” Elward with the Illinois State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s Office regarding the facts of the alleged allegations against Brodeur.
On 12/03/2024, a Will County Grand Jury indicted Theodore Brodeur for the offense of Theft, a class 2 felony. The Grand Jury indictment stated that Theodore Brodeur knowingly exerted unauthorized control over property of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties organization, being the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, and used the ATM cards to obtain cash in excess of $10,000.00 which was for his own personal gain.
Earlier today, the court documents were unsealed, and Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak issued a summons regarding the alleged offense. Theodore Brodeur’s next court appearance will be on 01/06/2025 at the Will County Court House for his initial court hearing.
