Massey’s death underscores state delay in launching mental health response program

On October 24, 2024, at 5:43 p.m., Officers responded to the area of West Jefferson Street and Reedwood Drive for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.

Will County Coroner Laurie H. Summers reported the death of Dyjahn T. Porter,19, of Joliet, who was pronounced deceased on Thursday Oct.24, at 6:04 p.m. at Ascension St. Josephs Medical center in Joliet, following a motor vehicle crash involving a Motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, near the intersection of West Jefferson Street and Reedwood Drive in Joliet.

Porter was the driver of the motorcycle. An autopsy was performed on Friday October 25th, 2024. Final cause and manner will be determined following Autopsy, Police and Toxicological reports. The Joliet Police Department is investigating the crash

In a preliminary investigation of the crash, Joliet Police determined the following: A 19-year-old male Joliet resident was driving a Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle eastbound on West Jefferson Street approaching Reedwood Drive. The Suzuki then collided into a Nissan Rogue driven by a 19-year-old female Romeoville resident that was turning westbound on West Jefferson Street from Northbound Reedwood Drive. The collision caused the male to be ejected from the motorcycle.

It is believed that the speed of the motorcycle may have played a factor in this crash. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

The roadway was closed for several hours as traffic crash investigators reconstructed the scene.

This crash remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at (815) 724-3110.
