Cyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

On October 6, 2024, at 2:47 a.m., Officers responded to the 200 block of South Larkin Avenue for a report of a hit and run crash involving a bicyclist.
Upon arrival, Officers located an unresponsive 56-year-old male lying next to a bicycle in the southbound lanes of South Larkin Avenue.
The victim was initially discovered by an uninvolved passing motorist, who called 911. A preliminary investigation determined that the male bicyclist had been struck by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene following the collision.
The male bicyclist was transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased.
At the time of this news release, the suspect vehicle has not been located.
The roadway was closed while traffic crash investigators reconstructed the scene.This crash remains under active investigation. Anyone with video footage or information regarding this crash is urged to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at (815)724-3110.
